Glenfiddich 19 year old Madeira Cask
A rich single malt matures in oak casks previously used to age fine Madeira wine. This has created an earthy, distinctive whisky with a full bodied yet fairly young character.
Deep earthy aroma of sweet ripe figs and orange marmalade with bright notes of fresh gooseberries and grapes. Rich, spicy palate with cinnamon and crushed black pepper resting on a base of deep earth notes, caramelised fruits, crystallised ginger, raisins and hints of dry oak. Pleasingly dry, warm finish that fades into a lingering sweet marmalade.
Glenlivet Captains Reserve
An intriguing release from The Glenlivet having been finished in es-Cognac casks for a “raisin-rich” intensity. Whisky finished in Cognac casks is not a common thing, so this edition is particularly interesting.
Bursting with sweet and fruity aromas. Rich in honey and apricot jame, with notes of cinnamon bread and a subtle sensation of spicy liquorice. Succulent flavours of mandarins in syrup, ripe poached pears and chocolate-dipped raisins with an incredibly smooth and luscious finish.
Glenrothes Select Reserve
This whisky is drawn mostly from American oak casks, with a helping of Sherry oak cask whisky too.
Lots of zesty rich fruit on the nose. Thick Seville marmalade, bubbling on a hot stove with toasted cereals. The palate is silken smooth and utterly supple. Gentle barley whispers sweet nothings to the honey. A little vanilla and malt with toasted cereal and sumptuous oak. The finish is long with mocha and barley sweetness.
Auchroisk 1993 Connoisseurs Choice
A 12 year old release from Gordon and MacPhail, this single malt from the Auchriosk distillery was aged in refill Amerian oak casks.
A medium nose, with a smooth sweetness. Lush stone fruits and floral notes developing into vanilla fudge. The palate is very light and bright with cereal and sweet barley. Something floral develops with white peach and pears and a very seductive salinity, just barely making an appearance. The finish is quite dry and light with gentle barley notes.
Aberlour a Bunadh Batch 41
Described as a respectful toast to Aberlour’s founder, James Fleming, this stunning whisky is produced in the style of the 19th Century whiskies once made at the distillery. It is beautiful whisky, aged in Spanish Oloroso Sherry Butts, with neither colouring nor chill-filtration. Just pure unadulterated whisky with an incredibly spicy flavour
Aromas of mixed spices including plenty of cinnamon, hazelnuts and caramelised peels leading to lots of rich Oloroso sherry notes. On the palate you will find marmalade, maraschino cherries, prunes and sultanas. Ginger nut biscuits and dark chocolate with a creamy mouthfeel. An intense and oaky with peppered dark chocolate.
BenRiach Authenticus Peated 25 year old
A 25 year old from Speyside’s Benriach, made using their peated spirit and sat at the top end of the age range for their peated whisky. Unusual for Speyside to produce a peated malt but a very interesting expression.
Tropical fruit-filled aromas with tangy peat, verbena, oily smoke and malt. Very fruity and rich palate with an explosion of peat smoke and dried herbs, a hint of fresh basil, a little pepper, cedar wood, honey and blossom. A long finish, fruity and rounded.
